TIFF 2018 Mini-Review Roundup!

One of the best parts of being a Cinephile in Toronto is when fall rolls around and all eyes in the movie industry turn towards Canada’s largest city. In addition to the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Toronto is also home to TIFF, also known as the Toronto International Film Festival. Anyone who’s anyone in[…]

SzteinCreative’s Best Films of 2017

Putting together a top 10 list for 2017 has proven harder than any other year that I’ve been doing these lists. Filmgoers and genre fans were absolutely inundated with great movies this year. The Dramedy had a strong showing this year, horror across budgets big and small hit hard with scares and thought provoking themes, Superhero movies continued to show us something new, action movies brought the exciting thrills, dramas brought history and emotion to wrecnhing life and Sci-Fi continued to be the go-to genre for a combination of thrills and new ideas.

Great Movies by Shitty Directors – Michael Bay’s The Rock

Chances are if you grew up in the 90s and love action movies, you’ll have a soft spot for Michael Bay’s 1996 action movie opus, The Rock. Let’s Rank ‘Em: Quentin Tarantino Films

Since Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino has never been shy about expanding his horizons, taking on new and interesting angles on well-trod genres like crime, horror, historical epics, and westerns. You never know what you’re going to get from a Tarantino movie, except of course, for snappy, witty dialogue, creative shot composition, bone crunching violence, great soundtracks, and unexpected plot turns.

The Oscars 2016: Who Will/Should Win: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love How the Academy Screws it up Every Year

Oscar season is upon us, and you know what that means! It means that the Academy will inevitably fuck everything up by awarding the most pandering, transparent, saccharine and syrupy Oscarbait instead of the real movies that show some originality and cause us to question our beliefs. The examples are everywhere, and for every time[…]

SzteinCreative’s Top Ten Films of 2015

Man, 2015 was an EPIC year for movies. Probably the best consistently good year for movies since the 90s. Whether your cinematic tastes are more pensive and thoughtful cinema, or blow-you-through-the-back-wall blockbuster extravaganzas, there was something for everyone to not only enjoy, but love at the multiplex this year. Here’s my personal Top 10 films[…]
