Putting together a top 10 list for 2017 has proven harder than any other year that I’ve been doing these lists. Filmgoers and genre fans were absolutely inundated with great movies this year. The Dramedy had a strong showing this year, horror across budgets big and small hit hard with scares and thought provoking themes, Superhero movies continued to show us something new, action movies brought the exciting thrills, dramas brought history and emotion to wrecnhing life and Sci-Fi continued to be the go-to genre for a combination of thrills and new ideas.

Go see this movie! It is the small, bare bones psychological thriller that emphasizes mood and claustrophobia over big budget special effects and empty headed action set pieces, and it’s all the richer for it.
Chances are if you grew up in the 90s and love action movies, you’ll have a soft spot for Michael Bay’s 1996 action movie opus, The Rock. Since both of those conditions apply to me, I can safely say that the Rock certainly has a comfortably nestled spot in my personal top ten action flicks of all time.
Since Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino has never been shy about expanding his horizons, taking on new and interesting angles on well-trod genres like crime, horror, historical epics, and westerns. You never know what you’re going to get from a Tarantino movie, except of course, for snappy, witty dialogue, creative shot composition, bone crunching violence, great soundtracks, and unexpected plot turns.
